Background to Knitting Part 1
How did I get into knitting??
Saw a jumper in window display of LYS two decades ago , walked in and asked to buy the jumper, only to be told by nice lady"My dear you will have to knit it up yourself"It was a grey chunky weight wool cabled jumper. I had never knitted a stitch before then ,even the proverbial scarf
Put up some front , calmly asked for a kit with all that I needed to finish project(yarn needles , beginner's guide to knitting)
I finished the jumper some weeks later, yikes it was too big ( what tension gauge?) but it was put to good use by younger brother.
Went very cold for the next ten years, busy learning couture dressmaking , falling in love with Issey Miyake designs( fodder for a parallel blog)
Liberty of London fabric sale one summer in the 1990's, stumbled on the Rowan concession( dont even ask me how) discovered a treasure trove of tactile yarns.
Bought Rowan # 24 , enough yarn to make Betsy byKim Hargreaves, a copy of Vogue Knitting Guide, and the rest as they say is history.
I still knit with selected Rowan designs and yarns , but very much a love hate relationship. The next post will discuss my knitting nirvanas.
